German automotive manufacturer Volkswagen has issued a voluntary recall on 589,000 Caddy small delivery vans globally due to tailgate problems across the globe.

In the recall affected vehicles, a condition may cause an open tailgate to snap shut. As a result, the gas-pressure shock absorbers attached to the tail gate may get dislodged in some vehicles.

Because of this defect the door of the vehicle may close unexpectedly. Volkswagen will notify the owners of the recall affected vehicles.

All these vehicles were manufactured between November 2003 and January 2013. Of the total Caddy vans, 284,000 vehicles are in Germany.

According to the company, Caddy vehicles with folding rear doors fixed to the sides are not affected by this recall.

In December 2013, Volkswagen Group of America also issued a voluntary recall on 62,155 Tiguan vehicles of certain model year 2009-2011, because of the problem with the fuse for the exterior lights.
