In February this year, French crude steel production amounted to 1.29 million mt, down by 0.8 percent year on year, constituting the ninth successive month of decline on year-on-year basis, according to the latest data released by the French Steel Federation (FFA).

In February, crude steel production in France using electric arc furnaces (EAFs) fell 10.6 percent year on year to 475,000 mt, while crude steel production using blast furnace (BF) technology totaled 815,400 mt, rising by percent year on year.

In the January-February period this year, French crude steel output decreased by one percent year on year to 2,640,950 mt. In the given period, EAF output fell 8.6 percent to 983,750 mt, while BF output increased by 4.1 percent to 1,657,200 mt, both year on year.

The FFA also noted that, compared to the respective periods in 2008, domestic crude steel production in February this year was down 19.1 percent, while output in January-February of the current year indicated a decline of 17.7 percent.
